Message from the Director

The rationale for the establishment of the Centre for Research, Culture and Creative Arts (CeRCCA) arose from the need to coordinate and maximize the relevance of the diversified creative activities within the School of Creative Arts (SCA) through research and adherence to best practices. This need has always yearned for an initiative, which will effectively and systematically develop and implement a model that will ensure that the School is professionally, culturally, socially, and economically significant in the University, Ghana, Africa and beyond. CeRCCA is therefore intended to serve as a nexus between the School of Creative Arts and society through research, knowledge creation, innovation as well as the preservation, promotion, dissemination and commercialization of Ghanaian/African culture and the creative arts. It also intends to create an enabling environment to support the research and creative activities of the staff of the School of Creative Arts as well as support research into innovative pedagogical best practices for ensuring the creation, dissemination and commercialization of artistic praxis of the School. The setting, programmes and activities of CeRCCA are also intended to help provide a sense of place and identity for the School of Creative Arts within and outside the University. Established in 2017, CeRCCA is the research wing of the Creative Arts faculty of the University of Education, Winneba.

CeRCCA undertakes multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and is ready to partner with agencies, oragnisations, institutions and other partners to apply for grants and consultancy services. The State of Creative Arts and Culture in Ghana, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Affairs Reports are CeRCCA’s two annual flagship publications.

Graduates of the faculty are in key positions in academia, both public and private as well as the informal sector. Our MPhil and PhD in Arts and Culture products have contributed to research in the field and received mention in research index reports.

We also organise short refresher courses that meet the needs of industry players in the Creative Arts and Culture sector. The University of Education, Winneba from which CeRCCA is situated is a leading teacher education training institution in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our faculty covers Dance, Music, Theatre Arts, Arts Education, Creative Arts Education, Textiles and Fashion Education.

We are a pivotal and trustworthy institution to collaborate with in the field of Creative Arts and Culture. CeRCCA’s main pillars are Research, education, and innovation; Advocacy and Volunteerism; and local and international partnerships for development in Culture and Creative Arts. Our doors are opened in that regard to collaborating with you in areas of research in Culture and Creative Arts; and to advance teaching and advocacy now.
