Conference Synopsis
Pursuant to the novel trends and dynamics of higher education globally, embedding sustainability into university curricula necessitates a context of learning that serves as an alternative to instructivist and instructor-centered learning and teaching approaches. The dynamics of innovation and transformation in education across different contexts have recently received a considerable scholarly focus in higher education. The recent shift and increasing adoption of open, flexible, and innovative-enhanced learning across the educational sector has made available large datasets on students’ interaction and engagement with their learning environment.
This new transformative pedagogy underlies and contributes to change, as many argue for a range of analytical and context-related skills to be developed in students. To operationalize education associated with sustainability, teaching approaches must focus on elements relating to learning processes rather than the accumulation of knowledge to create graduates with capabilities to improvise, adapt, innovate, and be creative. Innovation and pedagogical transformations have stimulated significant challenges for students and academic communities in adapting to teaching and learning. However, despite this swift and increasing acceptance of innovativeness in academia, there seems to be a status quo where far or less scholarly attention has been paid to how students rapidly adopt (adapt) the current innovative and transformative pedagogical experiences as in the case of higher education.
Given this, the ideal question that challenges academia and policy-makers in education is deciding upon the teaching and learning students in higher education will need to meet the profound social, environmental, economic and political challenges of the 21st century. Indeed, this critical question for higher education is echoed. Hence, the IMCfPS Secretariat of the University of Education, Winneba, announces its Seventh International Multidisciplinary Conference for Postgraduate Students scheduled at the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana from 9th – 11th August 2023.
