The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has organised an engaging weeklong training focused on the upgraded Learning Management System (LMS-Moodle) platform, known as V-Class, for faculty members.

Facilitated by the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Services in collaboration with the Division of Human Resource, the training aimed to equip educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to utilise the updated LMS efficiently and effectively.

The training drew the participants from faculty eager to harness the full potential of V-Class. It was held at the North Campus Mini-Conference Room and the Ajumako Campus Assembly Hall respectively. The refresher course addressed the critical need for faculty proficiency in digital teaching tools, especially in an era of online learning.

The upgraded V-Class platform offers new features, including improved interactivity, better collaboration tools, advanced grading systems, enhanced analytics capabilities, and expanded video conferencing options. Another major improvement is the introduction of customisable templates for course setup. The templates are designed to help faculty organise content, including sections for announcements, chat functions, assessments, teaching materials, and virtual lectures efficiently.

Dr. Ephrem Kwaa Aidoo, Senior Lecturer at the Department of ICT Education and former Director of ICT Services, highlighted Moodle’s long-standing role in the university’s academic operations. “Moodle has been our lifeline, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, time has passed, and some of us may have forgotten its potential. This session is meant to refresh our minds and introduce the platform’s new features,” he remarked.

Dr. Aiddo stressed the importance of using Moodle beyond just uploading lecture slides. He introduced the SAMR framework, which encourages educators to substitute, augment, modify, and redefine their teaching methods in online environments.

Feedback from participants highlighted the practical nature of the training. Many expressed gratitude for the interactive format and the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications on specific functionalities.

The training session is part of UEW’s ongoing commitment to providing its staff with the resources needed to adapt to evolving educational technologies. As the demand for flexible and accessible learning options continues to rise, initiatives like this ensure that the university remains at the forefront of digital education.
