UEW Students Urged to Rise and Build a Legacy of Excellence

Students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have been urged to embrace their potential and commit to building a legacy of excellence. This call was made during the university’s second Interdenominational and Thanksgiving Service for the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year.
The event, held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre on Sunday, 30th March, 2025 drew a large crowd of students, faculty, and community members who gathered to worship and reflect on the significance of faith in their academic and personal endeavours.

Themed "The Joy of the Lord is our Strength," a scripture reference from Nehemiah 8:10, the service sought to encourage students as they gradually conclude the semester filled with academic challenges and opportunities.
Rev. Prof. Alexander Kyei Edwards, immediate past University Chaplain of UEW and guest speaker delivered a powerful message that resonated with the audience, emphasising the importance of strength derived from faith. He drew inspiration from Nehemiah Chapter 8, verse 10b, urging the university community to arise and build.

Throughout his sermon, Rev. Prof. Edwards shared personal anecdotes and biblical stories illustrating how faith can be a cornerstone for success in higher education and life beyond the classroom. He implored students to pursue academic excellence and cultivate a character of integrity, empathy and service.
“Building a legacy that transcends personal achievements involves shaping a future that positively impacts others. Today, I encourage you to rise and contribute to a legacy of excellence—one that will inspire future generations,” he remarked.
Rev. Prof. Edwards encouraged students to be people-centred, lead by example, and make a positive impact on their communities. He prayed for God's guidance and blessings on the university, saying, "May the Almighty help us to accomplish things that otherwise we could not have done."

Speaking at the gathering, Prof. Victor Antwi, immediate past Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UEW, emphasised the need for the university community to make God happy in all their endeavours. He urged students to consider if their actions would please God before making decisions.
Prof. Antwi also stressed the importance of hard work and diligence, quoting Proverbs 22:29, which says, "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men."

The service included musical performances, prayers and moments of reflection, fostering a spirit of unity and camaraderie among attendees.
As UEW prepares its students for the challenges ahead, the message of building a legacy of excellence continues to echo inspiringly within the community, reminding everyone that strength comes from faith and a unified purpose.
