Bachelor of Art in Religious and Moral Studies Education
Prospects/Career Options
Prospective graduates of the B.A. programme in Religions and Moral Studies Education will be favourably disposed to compete with graduates from other disciplines in the employment sector. Upon successful graduation, the following sectors will provide career opportunities:
- Ghana Education Service (as teachers of African Traditional Religions, Christian Religious Studies and Islamic Studies in Senior High Schools)
- Ministry of Education (subject area experts)
- Department of Social Welfare (relations with faith-based groups)
- Faith-based Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
- Religious organizations and institutions
- Our graduates can also pursue careers in law, politics, public administration and several other disciplines.
Target Group
This programme is targeted at persons from the following groups who meet the stipulated entry requirements:
- SSSCE and WASSCE leavers with CRS or Islamic Studies who have the required passes (as stipulated in section 4 above: Students’ Admission, Progression and Graduation).
- Teachers with Diploma qualifications teaching RME, CRS, Islamic Studies and Social Studies.
Entry Requirement
Direct entry
1. WASSCE Applicants:
Must have, at least, credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects comprising the THREE (3) Core Subjects of English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science os Social Studies plus THREE (3) Relevant Elective subjects including Christian Religious Studies or Islamic Studies.
2. SSSCE Applicants:
Must have credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising the THREE Core Subjects of Integrated Science, English Language and Mathematics, plus THREE (3) relevant Elective Subjects, including Christian Religious Studies or Islamic Studies.
3. School Certificate/GCE)
Must have passes in THREE (3) relevant subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better) including Religious Studies, Economics, Mathematics, Geography, Government, History.
In addition, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for Science students).
4. Higher National Diploma (HND) Candidates
Candidates must have graduated with good HND certificate (at least 2nd Class Lower Division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience.
5. Mature Applicants
i) Applicants must be, at least, 25 years by 1st September of the academic year the applicant wants to enroll.
ii) The applicants must pass both the General UEW and Departmental Entrance Examinations. The evidence of age should be supported by submission of a valid Birth Certificate.
6. Foreign National Applicants
⦁ Must have studied Religious Studies or any related programme as well as meet all admission requirements as laid down by the University.
⦁ In addition, foreign applicants have to submit their certificates to Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for interpretation and verification
