Dr. Obaapanin Oforiwaa Adu, Director of GMD, emphasised the critical importance of ongoing education for university administrators to improve their written communication skills. Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo, Deputy Registrar of the Division of Human Resource and the workshop’s sole facilitator challenged participants to strive for proficiency in their roles to effectively represent the Registrar within the university community. She emphasised the importance of making a lasting impression in their respective departments, so their absence would be significantly felt.

During the interactive session, Mrs. Abedi-Boafo educated participants on the essentials of minute writing, the proper format administrators should follow, the preparatory steps for writing minutes, and the differences between writing a report and a minute. She underscored the importance of using minutes as references and decision-making tools.

To reinforce the learning, Mrs. Abedi-Boafo divided participants into two groups for a practical exercise. One group was tasked with presenting a note on each format for minute writing, while the other group was responsible for presenting a report on the workshop. Each group presented their work, which was then assessed by Mrs. Abedi-Boafo and members of the opposite group.

The workshop concluded with participants feeling more confident and skilled in their minute-taking and report-writing abilities. The initiative by the GMD signifies UEW’s commitment to fostering professional development among its administrative staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel in their roles.
