FSE-UEW Staff Equipped for Academic and Faculty Management Excellence

In a bid to engender academic and administrative excellence, the Faculty of Science Education (FSE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), organised a two-day staff development workshop.  

The event resonated with the theme "Training and Development of Talents for a Successful Career in Academia and Faculty Administration," took place at Lecture Hall 2, South Campus, UEW, on Thursday, 9th and Friday, 10th May, 2024.

The workshop proved to be a pivotal platform, addressing an array of pertinent topics aimed at enhancing the proficiency and effectiveness of faculty members. Participants were immersed in discussions covering academic supervision, career progression, priority setting in academia, professional ethics, mentorship dynamics, customer relations improvement strategies, and office management essentials.

In his opening address, Prof. Victus Samlafo, Dean of FSE, emphasised the imperative of continuous dialogue concerning initiatives beneficial to students and the institution at large. He urged attendees to remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence and to leverage the workshop as a conduit for growth and development.

Prof. Kaakyire Frimpong Duku, Principal of the College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL), serving as the Vice-Chancellor’s representative, lauded the proactive stance of the FSE in prioritising staff development. He underscored the significance of investing in the future of staff members and applauded the organisers for their foresight in facilitating such a comprehensive workshop.

Prof. Duku highlighted the essence of maturity in one's professional journey, remarking, “A sign of maturity comes when we have exhibited an enormous amount of development through the acquisition of knowledge. The best way to get the most from such seminars is to try to unlearn all that you know and just see whoever is presenting to be the best in that knowledge.”

The workshop featured esteemed resource persons including Dr. Samuel Mawusi Asafo, Prof. Samuel Kwesi Asiedu-Addo, Prof. Mawuadem Amedeker, Prof. Issifu Yidana, Prof. Victus Samlafo, Mr. Steve van Kamassah, Ms. Rebecca Techie-Menson, and Mr. Reginald Agbo. These experts provided invaluable insights and guidance, enriching participants with a wealth of knowledge and practical strategies.

The event concluded on a high note, with participants invigorated and equipped with enhanced skills and perspectives essential for excelling in academia and faculty administration. As the FSE at UEW continues its steadfast commitment to excellence, such initiatives serve as beacons illuminating the path towards continued growth and success in the academic realm.
