FSE-UEW Staff Equipped with Tools for Innovating Academic Programmes
In a bid to uphold academic excellence and meet the evolving needs of students, the Faculty of Science Education (FSE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), took a proactive step by conducting a comprehensive training session on the development of cutting-edge academic programmes.
Held on Monday, 6th May, 2024, at Lecture Hall 2, FSE Block, South Campus, UEW, the training aimed to empower faculty members with the necessary skills and insights to create novel academic offerings aligned with the standards set by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
Mr. Prince Asiedu, Acting Planning Officer at UEW, in his presentation, delved into the intricacies of formulating new academic programmes while adhering to GTEC regulations and guidelines. Mr. Asiedu provided invaluable guidance on navigating UEW's internal procedures, including the completion of the GTEC/INFO A.3 Form and engagement with relevant boards for approval and accreditation.
A key highlight of the training was the emphasis on packaging programmes effectively to streamline the accreditation process. Mr. Asiedu stressed the importance of presenting comprehensive documents that articulate the uniqueness and national relevance of each programme, while also aligning with UEW's mission and strategic objectives. Furthermore, participants gained insights into presenting graduate programmes with options in a manner conducive to GTEC recognition.
Prof. Victus Samlafo, Dean of FSE, commended the facilitators for their insightful presentations and urged faculty members, including newly employed staff, to embrace their roles enthusiastically. He underscored the significance of collaboration and cooperation among staff members to foster a conducive working environment to innovate for excellence.
The training session also provided a platform for participants to seek clarifications and engage in constructive dialogue. Mr. Asiedu and Dr. Patricia Ananga, Senior Assistant Registrar at the Accreditation Office at UEW, addressed queries and provided further explanation on various aspects of programme development and accreditation.
Speaking after the session, attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to enhance their skills and understanding in programme development. Many noted the practical insights gained and expressed confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of academic offerings at FSE.
