DHAE-UEW Future-Proofing its Graduates at a Seminar
The Department of Health Administration and Education (DHAE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) organised a seminar to equip students with practical skills in personal branding, curriculum vitae (CV) writing and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for academic and professional advancement.
The seminar, titled “The Graduate’s Edge: Personal Branding and Your CV as the Pincode to Opportunity,” was held at the North Campus Mini-Conference Room on Wednesday, 25th March, 2026. It brought together faculty, industry experts and students for forward-looking discussions on how graduates can remain competitive in an evolving global job market.
Dr. Michael Afari Baidoo, Head of DHAE, emphasised the need for strategic self-presentation and adaptability in today’s digital and highly competitive employment landscape. He noted that the seminar was designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and strategies to navigate both local and international job markets successfully. He emphasised that enhancing personal visibility, adopting strategic career planning approaches and leveraging modern technological tools such as AI were critical to achieving professional excellence.
Dr. Baidoo highlighted that the initiative aligns with UEW’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates who are not only academically competent but also professionally prepared. He encouraged participants to actively engage themselves in the session to maximise the benefits of the programme.
The seminar featured insightful presentations from seasoned academics and professionals. Dr. Jacqueline Nkrumah delivered a compelling presentation on personal branding, stressing the need for students to consciously shape their digital and professional identities. She urged participants to align their values, skills and public image to create a strong and authentic personal brand that resonates with employers.
Dr. Richard Agjei guided participants through the essentials of crafting a compelling CV. He emphasised clarity, relevance and honesty as key elements of an effective CV, advising students to tailor their documents to specific job opportunities while highlighting their strengths and achievements.
Adding a technological dimension to the discussions, Mr. Emmanuel Ahenfo introduced students to the practical use of AI tools in academic work and career development. He demonstrated how AI can support research, improve productivity and enhance learning outcomes when used responsibly.
Chairing the event, Prof. Fred Yao Gbagbo, the Dean of the Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences and Home Economics Education (FHASHEE), challenged students to be mindful of their digital footprints. He noted that in an era when individuals are easily profiled online, what students share on social media significantly shapes public perception of them, even before personal interactions occur.
Prof. Gbagbo further stressed that first impressions are often formed within minutes, making it essential for students to present themselves professionally at all times. He encouraged them to balance creativity with integrity, particularly when preparing CVs and engaging with digital platforms. He also highlighted the growing relevance of AI in education and revealed that the University is working on policies to guide its effective integration into academic activities.
He commended the Department for organising the seminar and urged both students and faculty to explore innovative ways of expanding such initiatives into sustainable programmes that could further enhance UEW’s academic and professional training portfolio.
The seminar forms part of UEW’s efforts to bridge the gap between academic training and industry expectations. By focusing on practical skills such as personal branding, CV development and digital competence, the University continues to position its graduates for success in a rapidly changing global environment.
Participants expressed appreciation for the seminar, noting that it provided them with actionable insights and tools to improve their employability and professional growth.
