UEW Art Education Department Donates ‘Big Six’ Busts to Ghana Parliament Museum
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) through its Department of Art Education at the School of Creative Arts strengthened its contribution to national heritage with a formal donation of a bust portrait of the 'Big Six' to the newly inaugurated Ghana Parliament Museum.
The ceremony, held on Friday, 7th November 2025, marked a significant milestone for both the University and the Museum.
The donation culminated from a final-year project by Ms. Lovia Duah, supervised by Mr. Ebenezer Kow Abraham of the Department of Art Education.
Mr. Abraham highlighted the significance of the work “This donation of the Big Six busts serves to honour the founding fathers of our beloved nation,” he remarked. He emphasised that the project not only highlights the talents of the students but also establishes a connection between the country’s legislative history and future creative pursuits.
The Parliamentary Museum Committee, chaired by Mr. Richard Kwame Acheampong with Mr. Leslie Lloyd McDanquah serving as Secretary and Mr. Ato Annan as a member specialising in Signography and Curating, formally accepted the donation from the team from the UEW.
Mr. Acheampong expressed heartfelt gratitude, emphasising that the donation was both timely and aligned with the museum's milestones since its commissioning by Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin in January 2025. “This is exactly what the museum requires. It was part of our plans but we faced resource and time constraints,” he noted, adding his eagerness to collaborate with UEW on future projects.
Mr. McDanquah also praised UEW’s pioneering role, noting that it is the first local institution to make such a contribution to the Museum. He lauded the University for using academic projects to address real-world needs and support public institutions.
The donation of the Big Six busts underscores UEW’s commitment to safeguarding national heritage while developing graduates whose creative work is both practical and impactful. Through this initiative, the School of Creative Arts demonstrates how academic excellence can serve the nation, fostering partnerships that strengthen the connection between education, art and society.
