To address Africa's pressing climate crisis, a team of researchers from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has secured a substantial grant from ERASMUS-EDU. The project, titled "TeProD: Capacity Building in Higher Education Strand 2," promises to revolutionise education and sustainability efforts across Ghana and Namibia.

The team comprises Dr. Richard O. Agjei (Project Coordinator), Dr. Bright Ankudze, Prof. Ruby Hanson, Prof. Charles Assuah, two research assistants, and a supporting staff member. With a generous funding allocation of €138,568 available to the UEW team out of a total project budget of €799,990.69 being utilised by four other institutions, TeProD focuses on empowering educators to spearhead climate action and circular economy principles.

This 36-month project harnesses cutting-edge digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to equip teachers with the knowledge and tools needed to integrate green and digital transformations into their curricula effectively.

"Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the future," says Dr. Agjei. "TeProD not only enhances their skills in twin transitions and pedagogy but also updates educational content to reflect the urgency of sustainable growth."

Central to TeProD is the integration of AI, which will serve as the cornerstone for developing interactive learning materials tailored to local contexts. These resources designed using the Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, aim to make complex concepts in circular economy accessible and engaging for students.

Additionally, the project will foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange among educators and decision-makers. This includes the development of a comprehensive handbook that will be disseminated across Africa through the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), ensuring broad accessibility and impact.

"TeProD is not just about education; it's about societal change," adds Dr. Ankudze. "By empowering teachers with advanced tools and knowledge, we are nurturing a generation capable of addressing global challenges."

The TeProD project exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to education, where innovation meets sustainability to prepare Africa's youth for a future defined by environmental stewardship and technological advancement. With its ambitious goals and collaborative spirit, TeProD sets a new standard for educational initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.
