UEW HR Empowers Staff with Retirement Preparedness Workshop
The Division of Human Resource (HR) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has taken a proactive step towards empowering its senior staff members by organising a comprehensive workshop focused on retirement preparedness.
Held at the North Campus Mini-Conference Room on Wednesday, 27th March, 2024, the workshop targeted employees between the ages of 55 and 60, providing essential insights and guidance on navigating the transition to retirement with confidence and readiness.
Facilitators from various disciplines offered a holistic approach to retirement planning. They addressed not only financial considerations but also emotional, social, and healthcare, essential for a fulfilling retirement journey.
Prof. Dominic Kweku Danso Mensah, representing the Vice-Chancellor, set the tone for the workshop, emphasising the importance of staying informed and psychologically prepared for the transition to retirement.
In a series of insightful presentations, participants were enlightened on diverse topics crucial to retirement preparedness. Mrs. Christina Ammah, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Applied Behavioural Sciences in Education (FABSE), delved into the intricacies of understanding retirement and its associated issues, providing attendees with valuable insights into managing the transition effectively.
Dr. John Kanyiri Yambah, Director of UEW Health Services, provided essential guidance on ensuring optimal healthcare access during retirement, while Dr. (Mrs.) Theresa Antwi, Director of the UEW Counselling Centre, offered valuable advice on the social and psychological dimensions of retirement planning.
Addressing financial considerations, Mr. Shadrack Nketiah, Senior Accountant, shared strategies and plans for prudent savings and investments towards retirement, equipping participants with practical tools for financial security in their post-employment years.
The workshop fostered active participation, with attendees engaging the facilitators in insightful discussions and seeking clarification on key points.
Mrs. Deborah Afful, Deputy Registrar of HR, in her closing remarks, expressed profound appreciation to all participants for their active engagement and commitment to the workshop's objectives. She emphasised the importance of proactive retirement planning in ensuring a smooth transition and a fullfilling retirement experience.
