The University has an animal and crop farm which sits on an 8-hectare land for the training of agriculturists. The Faculty of Science which houses the Department has well-equipped laboratories for practical training. In addition, the Department has comfortable lecture theatres and library with E-learning resources to aid in the students in their research.

Key achievements/activities

  • On the 1st of November, 2022, the Department organised a stakeholder engagement with the Directors of the Department of Agriculture and heads of Agriculture Institutions in neighbouring districts to solicit their inputs in the design of tailor-made programmes for their staff. Areas of common interest for research, collaborations and consultancy were discussed.
  • The Department in the 2022/2023 academic cultivated healthy vegetables on the school farm which was sold to staff and students. This served as training for the students who have interest in venturing into the business of raising vegetables for sale.
  • In the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, the Department engaged willing households in the Winneba community and offered them support to establish home gardens.
