Female in STEM Workshop by the Dept. Mathematics Education
The Department of Mathematics Education is organizing a one-day workshop titled Evidence-Based Approach to Bridging the Gap in Mathematics.
he workshop will,
- draw presenters and participants from across West Africa
- create a forum for participants to rethink about challenges prompting the gender gap in the scientific and academic communities,
- obtain baseline data to enable us to conduct joint research within West Africa on innovative ways to ensure gender parity in STEM.
Two lecturers, Dr. Peter Akayuure and Ms. Dorcas Attuabea Addo both of the STEM Working Group and of the Department of Mathematics Education secured funding from the Committee for Women in Mathematics under the International Mathematics Union to organise this workshop. Discussions on challenges, global networking and innovative approaches towards bridging the gender gap in STEM will be facilitated by Prof. Deborah Olufunmilayo Makinde (Nigeraia), Prof. Deborah Olayide Ajayi (Nigeria), Dr. Mercy Badu (Ghana) and Dr Gloria Armah (Ghana).
