UEW Level 300 Clothing Students Shine in Fashion Show
In a display of creativity and skill, level 300 students at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), wowed audiences with their unique fashion creations at a recent mini-fashion show.
The event, which served as part of their examination requirements for the course titled "Apparel Design and Construction," showcased the students' proficiency in clothing design and construction.
Under the theme "Apparel Designing: A Gateway to Creativity, Innovation, and Expression for the New Generation," the students strutted confidently down the runway, each presenting a collection of garments inspired by distinct themes assigned to them.
Mrs. Victoria Ghunney, Acting Head of the Department of Clothing and Textiles Education, emphasised the Department's commitment to providing a comprehensive education that encompasses both theory and practice. "Our programme is designed to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in fabric selection, designing, and sewing," she explained.
Dr. Jacqueline Ogoe, the lecturer for the course, shed light on the rigorous curriculum and requirements for the "Apparel Design and Construction" course. "This course integrates theoretical concepts with practical experiences accumulated by students throughout their academic journey," Dr. Ogoe stated. "Students are challenged to create garments that not only reflect their creative inspirations but also cater to diverse figure types and interests."
The exhibition served as a platform to prepare students for the demands of the fashion industry beyond graduation. Dr. Ogoe emphasised the importance of fostering innovation and creativity among students to thrive in the competitive fashion landscape.
The event garnered significant attention, with lecturers and students from various departments, including the Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences, and Home Economics Education, in attendance. The diverse audience praised the students' talent and dedication to pushing the boundaries of fashion design.
As the curtains closed on the fashion show, it was evident that the UEW Level 300 Clothing students had not only met but exceeded expectations, leaving an indelible mark on the local fashion scene with their ingenuity and flair.
