UEW’s ICTE Department Embarks on Educational Trip to GI-KACE

The Department of Information and Communication Technology Education (ICTE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has organised an educational trip to the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) in Accra.

The trip provided an invaluable opportunity for 120 students to immerse themselves in practical applications and the latest trends within the ICT industry.

Under the leadership of Dr. Stephen Opoku Oppong (Chief Patron), Dr. Ben-Bright Benuwa, and Mr. Edward Nwiah, all members of the ICT Education Department, the trip aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application.

The day began with a warm welcome and an introduction to the day’s activities by Madam Stella Tawiah. The visit featured presentations and interactive sessions designed to broaden the students’ understanding of various ICT domains.

Madam Sarah Arthur Oman, representing the Marketing Department of GI-KACE, provided an in-depth overview of the institution's course offerings. She highlighted key programmes including Networking (CCNA), Software Development, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, and Applied AI with Python.

The Director-General of GI-KACE, Dr. Collins Afari-Yeboah, delivered an insightful address, giving students a historical perspective on the institution and its commitment to advancing ICT knowledge and skills across Ghana.

Dr. Yaw Okraku-Yirenkyi, the Director of Studies at GI-KACE, discussed the vital role of soft skills in ICT education and how GI-KACE integrates these skills into their curriculum.

The students were then divided into smaller groups for a hands-on tour of the facility, guided by William and David, two knowledgeable staff members of GI-KACE.

An open forum facilitated by Madam Stella allowed students to ask questions and exchange ideas on the latest trends in ICT.

The educational trip to GI-KACE provided practical insights and engagement with industry experts, contributing to students’ professional development, and equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the world of technology.
