HR Prepares 2020 Retirees’ Minds for Retirement

The Division of Human Resource (HR) has held a two-day workshop for staff of the University who will be withdrawing either fully or partially from active service this year after working tirelessly to help the University attain greater heights.
The two-day workshop, which took place from Thursday, 25th to Friday, 26th June, 2020 at the Registrar’s Conference Room, North Campus, Winneba, was attended by Senior Members, Senior and Junior Staff of the Winneba Campus who are due for retirement.
The workshop brought onboard knowledgeable facilitators to prepare participants for the unknown, discuss with them how to live a healthy life in retirement and how to invest and manage their finances. The participants were also enlightened on the calculations of Ghana Universities Staff Superannuation Scheme (GUSSS), Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and Ex-Gratia.

Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Hagar Bampo Addo, who delivered the purpose of the workshop and welcome address on behalf of the Registrar, commended the participants for their dedication, commitment to duty, and contributions towards the growth of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
“The purpose of today’s gathering is to shed some light on expectations of life after your journey of work in UEW, and help condition your minds to embrace this beautiful new stage of your lives,” she stated.

In their presentations, the Head, Department of Psychology and Education, Prof. George Dandy Dampson opened participants’ minds on preparing for the unknown; Ag. Director, Health Services Directorate, Dr. (Mrs.) Beth Offei-Awuku educated them on living a healthy life after retirement; Senior Accountant, Mr. Albert Samuel Cromwell broadened participants’ knowledge on investment of income after retirement; and Schedule Officer, GUSSS Secretariat, Mr. Patrick Kwame Basuah led participants through the calculation of GUSSS, SSNIT and Ex-gratia benefits.
Participants expressed gratitude to Management of the University and HR staff for the workshop. They, however, entreated HR to organise such a workshop right after the employment of an individual or at least five years before the retirement of the beneficiary.

In his closing remarks, Senior Assistant Registrar, HR, Mr. Isaac Yaw Manu thanked the participants for their cooperation for making the workshop a successful one. He assured them that his outfit welcomes their contributions and would endeavour to take the necessary action on same.
