Aim, Mission and Goals

AIM

The aim of the Department is to produce high quality professionals and teachers to meet the educational and other manpower needs of the Nation. The programme is designed to equip students with knowledge, attitudes and marketable skills that will help teach or offer services effectively at all levels of education as well as other organizations or establishment. Subject areas they can teach include; Management in Living, Population and Family Life Education, Receiving and Managing Guests, Sociology of the Family, Consumer Behaviour and Education, Child studies, Community extension among others. The programme also provides students with detailed concepts and equip them with practical and analytical skills which will enable them to make useful contributions concerning the effective use of resources and control events of everyday living in order to improve on quality of life in general. Finally, students will be equipped with problem solving skills to enable them impact positively on the lives of learners, individuals, families and communities in general for national growth and development.

 

Mission

The department shall serve as a centre of excellence at which requisite academic proficiencies and professional competencies in Family Life Management Education. It shall imbue into its products knowledge and skills for teaching at the pre-tertiary level. It shall conduct high level research into Family Life Management Education and related problems. It shall be a place where relevant knowledge from Family Life Management Education researches shall be disseminated and skills imparted to raise educational standards in at pre-tertiary educational levels and thereby influence policies in Ghana.

 

Goals

The goals of the department are to:

 

  1. produce all-round graduates who are capable of teaching at all the pre-tertiary levels of education and also work in other institutions where their services will be needed.. 
  2. produce graduates who will be able to cope with challenges of life and operate effectively in any society in which they find themselves.
  3. develop students’ competences in managing, personal, family, community and national resource for quality living.
  4. provide opportunities for students to undertake purposeful outreach programmes in communities in Ghana and beyond.
  5. equip students with skills for conducting research and use their findings to solve individual, family and society problems for quality living.
  6. provide community services through outreach programmes to promote growth and development
