Brief history
The Department of Educational Foundations officially began on 1st September 2020. Prior to this day, the it was part of the hither to Department of Psychology and Education which had existed since the commencement of the University. Following growth in programmes and activities of the then department, Management acting on Academic Board decision approved a proposal submitted, which resulted in the creation of the Department of Educational Foundations.
Objectives/Goals/Mission/Vision statement
- To provide professional teacher education for all undergraduate students of the University of Education, Winneba
- To run programmes in general education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- To run programmes that offer professional development opportunities for educators in Ghana and beyond
- To undertake cutting-edge research in teacher education, curriculum, instructional design, assessment and instructional supervision
- To develop skilled academics to render consultancy and social services to the immediate communities, national and international institutions.
Achievements
- The Department runs seven general education courses for all undergraduate students of UEW (Winneba & Ajumako)
- The Department recently commenced a new MPhil programme in Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies
- The Department is collaborating with Right to Play International to run professional development programmes for Lecturers
- The Department of collaborating with partners on a project titled Tri-continental Teacher Training (TTT) involving University of Hamburg and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill
