DWC-UEW Workshop Sharpens Ajumako Campus Students’ Skills
The Debaters and Writers’ Club (DWC) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) – Ajumako Campus organised a one-day capacity-building workshop on 26th July, 2025, under the theme “Becoming Seasoned Writers and Speakers.”
The workshop was part of the Club’s strategic plan to prepare its members to excel both within and beyond the University while fostering confident representatives for external contests.
The workshop featured three experienced facilitators, each delivering impactful presentations on key aspects of communication.
Dr. Naa Korkor L. Watson-Nortey, Head of the Department of Communication Instruction, spoke on Developing Communication Skills.
Prof. Abraham Kwesi Bisilki, Head of the Department of Ga-Dangme Education and Patron of the Club, discussed “Crafting Compelling Content.”
Mr. Asare Okai-Anti, from the Communication Department, spoke on Building Confidence.
Dr. Naa Watson-Nortey and Mr. Okai-Anti co-presented their topics, sandwiching Prof. Bisilki’s session — a well-structured delivery style that enhanced participant engagement and understanding.
The event, held on the Ajumako campus under the patronage of Prof. Abraham Kwesi Bisilki was well-attended and marked a significant milestone in the Club’s efforts to improve members’ writing and public speaking skills.
Participants were actively involved through a brief practical exercise. After just two minutes of preparation, volunteers spoke for or against the motion: "School uniforms should be introduced at university level." The session concluded with constructive feedback from the facilitators and fellow participants, reinforcing the skills learned.
A panel discussion then followed, providing a platform for participants to ask questions and clarify issues, deepening their understanding of the themes explored.
As participants left the workshop more confident, knowledgeable and inspired, the DWC looks forward to nurturing a new wave of articulate leaders ready to make a positive impact in society.
The Debaters and Writers’ Club (DWC) is a student-led association committed to developing eloquent speakers and articulate writers within the university community. It offers a dynamic platform for members to refine their craft through training, mentorship and participation in competitions.
