LINGSA-UEW Embarks on Educational Tour to Promote Experiential Learning
The Linguistics Students’ Association of the University of Education, Winneba (LINGSA-UEW) has undertaken an educational tour to the Osu Castle (Christiansborg Castle), the Parliament House of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park as part of efforts to enhance experiential learning and broaden students’ understanding of Ghana’s history, governance and cultural heritage.
The tour on Wednesday, 15th July 2026, involved 91 participants, comprising five staff members and 86 students and was coordinated by the Association’s 2025/2026 executives. The initiative was undertaken with the guidance and support of the Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics and Chief Patron of LINGSA-UEW, Dr. Rogers Krobea Asante, as part of the Department’s and the Association’s shared commitment to complementing classroom instruction with practical learning experiences.
The first stop was the historic Osu Castle, where participants explored one of Ghana’s most significant colonial landmarks. The visit offered students an opportunity to reflect on Ghana’s colonial history and the trans-Atlantic slave trade while appreciating the historical events that have shaped the nation’s development.
At the Parliament House of Ghana, the team observed live parliamentary proceedings and witnessed legislative debates at first hand. The experience provided students with valuable insights into the strategic role of language in governance, political communication, persuasion and legislative processes.
The educational tour concluded at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park where participants gained deeper insights into the life, leadership and enduring legacy of Ghana’s first President and renowned Pan-Africanist, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The visit reinforced students’ appreciation of Ghana’s journey to independence and the ideals of African unity and self-determination that defined his visionary leadership.
Reflecting on the tour, participants described the experience as both enlightening and inspiring, noting that it enabled them to connect theoretical concepts studied in the classroom with real-world institutions and historical sites. The excursion deepened their appreciation of Ghana's democratic governance, historical heritage and the practical relevance of linguistic studies in national development.
The educational tour reaffirms LINGSA-UEW’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, civic responsibility, and the holistic development of students through innovative and experiential learning opportunities.
