In a resounding affirmation of commitment to academic excellence, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, has guaranteed the incoming batch of fresh students for the 2023/2024 academic year a life-changing experience during their stay at the institution.

Addressing the newcomers at the opening ceremony of the four-day Intensive Pre-Academic Orientation Programme (IPOP), Prof. Mitchual described UEW as more than just a teacher education institution. He emphasised that it is a vibrant community fostering diversity, unity, and a platform for turning aspirations into reality.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Victor Antwi, delivered the Vice-Chancellor's message at the event, highlighting the university's ethos of nurturing visionaries and potential game-changers. The IPOP, organised by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, unfolded simultaneously for undergraduate and postgraduate students at distinct venues on the campus.

Expressing his delight in welcoming the fresh students, Prof. Mitchual commended them for excellently securing a place at the top teacher education institution in sub-Saharan Africa. He conveyed the administration's joy in having them join the academic community, emphasising that their presence is a testament to hard work, dedication, and untapped potential.

The Vice-Chancellor vividly depicted UEW as a melting pot of ideas, a crucible of innovation, and a centre of intellectual inquiry. He encouraged the newcomers not only to focus on academic prowess but also to discover their passions, build connections, and lay the foundation for a successful future.

"Our university is not just a collection of buildings; it is a dynamic and inclusive space where ideas flourish and aspirations take flight. Embrace this diversity, for it is the foundation upon which the true essence of learning thrives," Prof. Mitchual stated.

Urging students to approach lectures with curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, the Vice-Chancellor assured them that the dedicated faculty members would guide, challenge, and inspire critical and creative thinking. He envisioned the students as future leaders, inventors, and agents of change, urging them to view the university as a canvas where they could paint their unique masterpieces.

The four-day IPOP offered a comprehensive orientation programme covering crucial topics such as online course registration procedures, academic rules and regulations, time management, challenges and opportunities for fresh students, library resources, social and religious life on campus, non-academic rules, health services, and more.

The programme aimed to equip students with the necessary tools for academic success and personal development. As UEW opens its doors to a new generation of learners, the commitment of the Vice-Chancellor to providing a transformative experience sets an inspiring tone for the academic journey that lies ahead.
