Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has reaffirmed his commitment to bolstering campus security, responding to recent incidents that have underscored the necessity for enhanced safety measures.

Speaking at the second Interdenominational and Thanksgiving Service for the 2023/2024 academic year, held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, Prof. Mitchual detailed his personal involvement in patrolling the campus, identifying vulnerable areas, and understanding the security challenges firsthand.

Prof. Mitchual stressed the importance of a collaborative approach to maintaining a secure campus, urging students to stay vigilant, avoid shortcuts, and be aware of their surroundings. He also issued a stern warning against lynching and vigilantism, recalling a troubling incident where students were wrongfully detained for months due to false accusations.

Prof. Mitchual announced plans to integrate ICT-based solutions into the university's security infrastructure to strengthen security. "We aim to incorporate ICT to enhance campus security. In the next six months to one year, you will see a significant improvement," he assured.

Beyond security, the Vice-Chancellor addressed pressing issues such as fees, registration, and examinations, encouraging students to meet their obligations to ensure a smooth academic process. He also expressed his vision for internationalisation on campus in the upcoming academic year, emphasising the importance of spiritual guidance and support for the university community.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Mitchual offered valuable advice to students, urging them to present themselves professionally, especially during interviews, and to use wisdom in their daily lives. "Your safety and success are paramount," he concluded, reinforcing the administration's dedication to creating a safe and supportive environment at UEW.

As UEW continues to grow and evolve, the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to enhancing security and fostering a well-rounded academic experience reflects the university’s broader mission to nurture not only the intellectual but also the personal development of its students. With these renewed efforts, the university aims to set a standard for safety and excellence that will resonate across its campuses.
