Book Launch: Inclusive Education
The academic community and the general public are invited to the launch of Inclusive Education, a new book authored by Professor Michael Subbey, Director of the Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD), University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
The book presents a comprehensive examination of inclusive education systems across the world, exploring how countries have developed policies, programmes and strategies to ensure equitable access to quality education for learners with disabilities. It critically analyses the extent to which students with disabilities are integrated into mainstream education and highlights both the progress made and the challenges that remain.
Drawing on historical perspectives and contemporary practices, Inclusive Education discusses a wide range of approaches to promoting equity in education while advocating for the educational rights of every child. The publication raises awareness of the barriers that continue to exclude many learners from formal education and underscores the importance of creating educational systems that are accessible, welcoming and responsive to diverse learning needs.
Professor Michael Subbey is a specialist in Special Education with expertise in Early Childhood Inclusive Education and a lecturer in the Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of Education, Winneba. With more than 25 years of experience in tertiary teacher education, he has served as Head of the Department of Early Childhood Education and currently serves as Director of the Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD). He is also the Managing Editor of the International Journal for Early Childhood Care and Educational Research and has authored several textbooks and course books in early childhood and special education. His research interests include inclusive education, child and adolescent development and learning, and intellectual disability.
The launch is expected to bring together academics, education professionals, policymakers, researchers, students and other stakeholders committed to advancing inclusive and equitable education in Ghana and beyond.
