UEW Ph.D. Journalism Students Interact with CEO of Focus 1 Media
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Students in Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have interacted with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Focus 1 Media, Mr. Kwame Adu-Mante, on content development and management.
The engagement served to bridge the gap between academia and industry while also allowing Ph.D. students to have a thorough understanding of the reality of content management in the media landscape.
Mr. Adu-Mante, who is also an executive member of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), shared his real-world media work experiences with the students. He advised students to seriously consider staying current in their field of study to be competitive as potential media content managers.
The resource person discussed the role of language in content promotion. He asserted that patronage of the content is ultimately determined by the language employed by content creators. As a result, when promoting content, the language used should be a crucial factor.
The bankroller of multiple media outlets in Ghana underscored the significance of having a promotion calendar that takes the target audience into account. He highlighted the benefits that digital platforms have provided for traditional media to amplify their content.
The Head of Department, Journalism and Media Studies, UEW, Dr. Gifty Appiah-Adjei, indicated that building the competence of students in the promotion of media content was key to building potential journalism lecturers and media managers. She was of the strong belief that the lecture would spark more conversations on the bridge between theory and practice.
"Sometimes, what theory teaches you, you go onto the field and realise that it is totally different. So, in order to ensure the bridge between theory and practice, we occasionally bring experts from the field to bring the realities out there on the field to our students so that we can have discussions on theory and practice," he averred.
