UEW Honours 2024 Retirees with Farewell Ceremony

In a memorable ceremony, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), celebrated the dedicated services of 30 retirees in a grand farewell event at the SEMSA Club House, North Campus, Winneba, on Friday, 18th October, 2024.

This year's ceremony was particularly significant because, for the first time in the university's history, three casual employees joined the 27 permanent employees, at the farewell party. The retirees served UEW for varying lengths, with some dedicating 26-30 years, others 21-25 years, 16-20 years, and 11-15 years.

The ceremony was to honour the invaluable contributions these staff members made to UEW. Each retiree was presented with a beautifully crafted citation plaque and a token of appreciation enclosed in an envelope, acknowledging their years of commitment and service to the university community.

The retirees were treated to authentic Ghanaian music. The cultural tunes provided a captivating backdrop, infusing the event with the rich musical heritage of the country drawing dancing mobes and cheers from attendees.

The event was attended by university officials, faculty, family members, and colleagues, who gathered to extend support, express gratitude and bid farewell to the retirees.

Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of UEW, underscored the retirees' achievements, dedication, and the invaluable roles played in the academic and administrative spheres of the university. He announced plans for a retirees' wellness centre, which would include a gym, clinic, and social spaces.

Prof. Mitchual extended the University's Governing Council and Management’s gratitude for the retirees' contributions. He highlighted notable achievements, including the upcoming operationalisation of an ultra-modern hospital by month-end. He urged retirees to prioritise their health and seek early treatment for medical conditions.

Mr. Steve van Kamasah, Deputy Registrar at the Division of Publications and Communication, who addressed the retirees on behalf of the Acting Registrar, praised their hard work and dedication, noting that their professionalism and ethics made a lasting impact on the institution.

"We gather to celebrate and acknowledge the devoted service of our retiring staff. These retirees encouraged excellence among colleagues and faced challenges with commitment, shaping UEW's growth," he remarked.

Mr. Kamasah indicated that the ceremony aimed to formally acknowledge their contributions, inspire current employees, and celebrate their achievements. "You deserve happiness and fulfilment. May your retirement bring warm friendships, family love, life's simple pleasures, introspection, recreation, and self-discovery," he said.

Several retirees took to the stage to share heartfelt reflections and stories from their time at UEW, leaving the audience with a sense of nostalgia and inspiration. As the event concluded, there was a shared sentiment of appreciation for the retirees' legacies and a hopeful anticipation for the continued growth of the university.

The event celebrated retirees' tireless efforts, reinforcing UEW's commitment to its community. The ceremony's success underscored the profound sense of community and respect that UEW fosters, ensuring that each individual's contributions are acknowledged and celebrated.
