“I dare not fail” – Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni has pledged his allegiance to serve diligently the people of Ghana and the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

He expressed awareness that institutions of today, such as the UEW are eager for leaders endowed with innovative ideas to help move the nation Ghana out of poverty through the provision of effective and efficient education delivery process aimed at granting access to as many of its citizens as possible.  

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this in his Induction Speech as the fourth Vice-Chancellor of the UEW during the Investiture and Induction Ceremony held on Monday, 17th September, 2018 at Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba.

“Having lived much of my professional academic life here in this University, I know that the stakes are high and the yardsticks are sharply drawn to measure my performance. I know I dare not fail the trust and huge expectations of the wonderful warm faces that have gathered here.” He said.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni therefore, vowed to provide a kind of leadership that would meet the expectations of the thousands of UEW’s stakeholders and further carry them on board to greater and better places.

“My mandate requires that, with the continued blessings of God Most High, the Amazing Intercessions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, my Patron, Saint Anthony of Padua, with the support of the Governing Council, the Academic Board and my colleague staff of UEW and beyond, I will assemble the best team to initiate strategic mechanisms to meet the expectations of our diverse stakeholders and with your support and the Grace of God, I promise to do exactly that: pursue the vision and mission of our University through innovative approaches based on honesty, hard work and international standards.” He said.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni promised to lead a community of educators who would move beyond teaching Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.

“I pledge to continue from where my predecessors left of, to train holistically competent teachers, men and women of substance; citizens who are not only academically brilliant, effective and efficient in the classroom, but those who are disciplined, morally sound, hardworking, and who love fellow human being and country.    

“I am poised to leading a team of educators, administrators and other technocrats who are passionate enough about education as the most effective tool for social change and national development.” The Vice-Chancellor said.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni announced that he would set up a Post-Graduate Students Lounge and make efforts to improve relations with surrounding communities through enhanced collaborations at satellite campuses (Ajumako, Kumasi and Asante-Mampong) between September and November.

Over three thousand attendees consisting of invited guests, convocation members, Clergy, students, family, church members, friends and well-wishers thronged the Conference Centre to grace the occasion.
