On Saturday, October 14, 2017, Dr. Ebenezer Acquah, the Acting Head of the Department of Graphic Design, UEW won a prestigious award for mentors - the Most Inspiring Mentor in Graphic Design at the 3rd Graphic Design Awards Ghana 2017 competition held in Accra.

A second year Graphic Design student, Prosper Afetormashie of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) also emerged as the Winner of the Best Infographics Design at the event. The event was attended by the Acting Dean of the School of Creative Arts, Dr. PatriquedeGraft-Yankson, Head of Department of Art Education, Dr. A. K. Kemevor, Dr. Joseph Essuman, and Mr. Victor Teye who are lecturers in the Department of Graphic Design and Graphic Design students and technicians.

Students from UEW who were also recognized at the event were Charles Sam, SaviourKlinogo, and Obeng Amoako.

The competition is an annual event in Ghana that seeks to recognise and celebrate talented Graphic Designers in tertiary institutions in Ghana and to inspire others to go into specialized fields to develop their skills.

It is also designed to showcase to the business community the best of Graphic Design education in Ghana. Institutions that submitted entries for this year’s event include University of Education, Winneba, Radford University College, Accra, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Takoradi Technical University, and Ho Technical University. This year’s theme was “Identifying the Ghanaian Design identities”. The Founder of the awards scheme, Felix OforiDartey expressed his appreciation to participating institutions and service sponsors for the programme.
