Retired staff of COLTEK Donates Books to College

A retired Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR) of the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Mr. Archie Kelly Taylor has donated boxes of academic and Christian religious books to the College. This adds to an earlier collection of English books he donated to the College, four years ago.

The donation, made with a view to promoting reading and moral uprightness among staff and students of the College, was also to honour the memory of his late wife, Mrs. Margaret E. Taylor, who was a retired Senior Lecturer and a former Dean of the Faculty of Education and Communication Sciences (FECS) at COLTEK.

At the presentation ceremony in Kumasi, Mr. Taylor spoke passionately about the need for students of the College to value the opportunity of undergoing training in a reputable university like UEW.

“Our students must be studious, conscientious and hardworking so they can come out of school as well-groomed graduates who are useful to society,” the Septuagenarian advised.

Turning attention to staff on attitude of work, at the University Mr. Taylor said he could confidently tout the fact that he had paid his due to UEW, having served the University for over a decade before his eventual retirement in the year 2010.  He stressed, “What is important now is for those of you still working here to give off dedicated service so that the University would continue to grow.”

The Deputy Registrar and Head of University Relations Department at COLTEK, Mr. Michael Kofi Twum-Ampomah, who received the books on behalf of COLTEK, was highly appreciative of Mr. Taylor’s gesture.

He said it was gratifying to know that even in retirement, Mr. Taylor still thought highly of the College as to make him mobilise resources to help COLTEK maintain a steady growth.

He assured the donor that the books would be placed in the College’s Library for easy access to all who might have need of any of the books.
