Lecturers Support Student Elections amid COVID-19
Four lecturers in the School of Business, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), have donated assorted items to support the upcoming elections of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), UEW Chapter.
The items were nose masks, hand sanitisers and an amount of GH₵ 500.00 each to SRC and GRASAG-UEW, to enable them to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols during the elections scheduled for Friday, 10th September for SRC and 24th September, 2021 for GRASAG-UEW.
The individual donors who presented the items included (from R-L); Prof. Braimah Awiasu Imurana, Dr. Bernard B. B. Bingab, Ms. Edna Owusu-Bempah and Mr. Alhassan Salifu Bawah
The benefactors were the Dean, School of Business, Prof. Braimah Awiasu Imurana; Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Bernard B. B. Bingab; Director, UEW Basic Schools, Mr. Alhassan Salifu Bawah; and Lecturer, Department of Management Sciences, Ms. Edna Owusu-Bempah.
Presenting the items to the SRC Electoral Commission on behalf of the team, Prof. Imurana stated that “We are aware of the upcoming elections and the fact that we are not in good times. For this reason, colleagues here and my good self decided to pull resources together to get you some hand sanitisers and nose masks. The idea is to help the SRC and GRASAG-UEW to conduct elections without any incidents of COVID-19”.

He added that “there are some students who may come and tell you that they are not wearing nose masks because they don’t have money to purchase one; we are saying that, it is just appropriate that the SRC or GRASAG will be in a position to provide one for that person to wear. We are very confident that any student coming to vote must sanitise their hands before they vote and so the sanitisers we’ve given you will go a long way to fulfil that purpose”.
Receiving the items on behalf of the two student bodies, the SRC Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Manaf Abdallah, expressed his warm gratitude to the four Lecturers for their support. “Adhering strictly to the COVID-19 protocols was one of our major challenges and once this one has been solved, I know that we will have a very peaceful and smooth election in a manner that protects my precious colleagues.”
