Health and Sanitation Workers Urged to exhibit professionalism in their work

The Senior Assistant Registrar in charge of the Junior and Senior Staff Unit of the Division of Human Resource, Mr. Augustus K. Brew has charged staff of the Health and Sanitation Unit to exhibit high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.

He said this at a workshop held on Monday 15th August, 2016 at the Demonstration Theatre of the University of Education, Winneba, North Campus. Speaking on the topic “Ensuring Good Sanitation” he stressed on the significant role played by the Health and Sanitation Workers in the University towards ensuring good sanitation in and around the University community.

He indicated that UEW needed to maintain high standards in its sanitary works to be benchmarked for other institutions to emulate. He urged them to uphold the tenets which governs the work they were called to do which included: punctuality and regularity to work, have a good sense of maturity in handling their schedule, be delighted/proud with their job (though the income may not be much), exhibit a high sense of professionalism where they leave no room for criticism, be judicious in the use of resources: time, other working tools and maintain healthy interpersonal relationship to enhance their work output.

The workshop which is a collaborative effort of the Division of Human Resource and the Office of the Health, Sanitation and Environment was part of the regular scheduled training programmes to be organised for employees of the Unit.

The University Pharmacist, Mr. Foster Asante spoke on “The Appropriate Use of Chemicals” He shed light on the various chemicals used for sanitary works in the University which included Detergents, Disinfectants and Sterilants. He took participants through the general characteristics of these chemicals and some safety rules to follow. He called for the need to organised regular education on the usage of these chemicals to serve as reminders for the health workers.

Other speakers at the workshop were the Head of Health, Sanitation and Environment Office, Mr. Jacob Mensah and the Employee Relations Officer of the Human Resource Division, Mrs. Irene Mitchelle Ofosu-Behome. In attendance were the Deputy Registrar in charge of the Division of Human Resource, Mrs. Christie Okae-Anti and the Staff Training and Development Officer, Mr. Isaac Darkoh.
