Principal of COLTEK, Prof. Frederick K. Sarfo addressing Faculty members
Officially opening the workshop, the Principal of COLTEK, Prof. Frederick K. Sarfo called on the wealthy and affluent in society to support tertiary education in the country to avoid the situation where universities only depend on fees for income generation.
He made reference to other countries, noting that the affluent in those societies have been generous in supporting education knowing that eventually quality products from schools would become the workforce for their businesses.
He reminded participants of COLTEK’s vision to become a center of excellence for quality teacher education and research in TVET and charged them to be innovative in order to anchor the relevance and competitiveness of the Faculty in the face of stiff competition in the tertiary education front.
“We have a duty to work hard to achieve greater international and local visibility and collaboration; produce graduates with unparalleled acumen for researching in the area of curriculum, instruction and language as well as raise funds for research and development activities”, he added.
Making a presentation on the topic – “Teaching and Learning in Tertiary Education in the 21st Century,” Prof. Sarfo, who is also Dean of FECS, advocated for education in the country to be properly focused so that it could churn-out graduates who would be productive, creative and critical thinkers on issues of national interest.
Other speakers at the workshop were Dr. Faith Ben-Daniels, Dr. Stephen Adjei Baffour and Mr. Ato Kwamina Arhin.
FECS is the pioneering faculty of COLTEK and has evolved into three academic departments namely Department of Inter-disciplinary Studies (DIS), Department of Educational Leadership (DEL) and Department of Languages Education (DLE) as well as the Center for Competency-Based Training and Research (CBTR).
The Faculty offers MA, M.Phil and Ph.D in Educational Leadership; Diploma-in-Education as well as undergraduate programmes in areas including English and Arabic.
