Department of Early Childhood Education Holds Exhibition of Instructional Materials
The Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE) has held an Exhibition of Instructional Materials developed by level 300 students at the Faculty Block, North Campus, Winneba.
The exhibition sought to highlight the accurate use of instructional materials in teaching concepts that are difficult to be understood by early grade pupils. It also aimed at drawing attention to improvisation of instructional materials on the part of the teacher when he or she finds him or herself in areas where Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) were difficult to find and use.

The Head, Department of Early Childhood Education, Dr. Samuel Oppong-Frimpong reiterated that the exhibition was being held to showcase to people who care about education what the students had done, to appreciate the fact that TLM is a reality, and something that student-teachers should be taught to do. He added that as part of requirements for the level 300 course in Material Development, students were taught to develop TLMs which helps to facilitate teaching and learning processes.
The Director, Quality Assurance, Prof. Yaw Ameyaw, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the students for developing TLMs. He urged them to carry the good practice to the classrooms for the betterment of the early grade pupils.
“Teaching without TLMs is no teaching. If you need to teach very well, then, the need for the improvisation of TLMs is very crucial,” he said.
The Dean, Faculty of Educational Studies, Prof. Samuel Hayford, expressed amazement at the wonderful works the students had done. He applauded them for their tireless efforts to come out with such creative materials.
Dr. Oppong-Frimpong took the guests round to inspect the TLM stands of the students where the students took time to explain the materials and their uses. In all there were about 12 student groups who mounted stands. Some of the TLMs exhibited included types of houses, places in the community, children’s park, religious buildings, health centres, fishing community, sources of water, means of transportation and football arena.
