Kwadaso MP Donates 30 Street Lights to COLTEK

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, Dr. S. K. Nuamah has donated 30 Suiming 150-Watt Led Street Lights to the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The donation partly followed appeals by the leadership of COLTEK’s chapter of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) to the Ministry of Energy for street light bulbs to further improve the lighting situation and for that matter, security in the College.


UEW to Offer Speaker of Parliament Honorary Doctorate Degree

The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has affirmed its intention to honour the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye with a doctorate degree for his unwavering contribution towards the remarkable history and politics of Ghana.  

According to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, UEW occasionally honours citizens and international figures who have contributed adeptly to the course of humanity hence, the reason to offer the Third Gentleman of the land an honorary doctorate degree.


UEW Research Team Visits Europe on a Collaborative Project

As part of a 3-year research project on ‘Exploring Visual Cultures’, an eight-member team of researchers and lecturers from the University of Education, Winneba visited Germany and Italy from November 10th – 18th, 2019. The essence of the visit, amongst others, was to explore the visual culture milieu of Germany and Italy, and attend a symposium at the Academy of Fine Art University in Germany to present image-based research papers on the said project.


Dean of School of Creative Arts Represents UEW at First International Conference of UNESCO Chairs

The Dean, School of Creative Arts of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Dr. Patrique deGraft-Yankson has attended the first International Conference, Workshop and Meeting of UNESCO Chairs from 2nd to 4th December, 2019 in Wuppertal, Germany.

The purpose of the conference which was to exchange information, experiences and strengthen possibilities of collaboration among UNESCO Chairs was held under the theme, ‘Linking Education, Transdisciplinarity and International Partnership’.


Speaker of Parliament Advocates for Reinforcement of Women Empowerment

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye has called for reinforcement of women empowerment and the enhancement of equal rights to boost women representation in decision making.   

He advocated for allocation of seats to women who would like to contest for elections and urged political parties to reserve a quota for women to encourage their participation in politics and governance.


Faculty of Science and Environment Education Observes World Toilet Day 2019

The Faculty of Science and Environment Education, Asante-Mampong Campus in collaboration with Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has observed the 2019 World Toilet Day at the Esaase Bontefufuom Senior High School in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

This year’s World Toilet Day was celebrated under the theme Clean hands for all; Living no one behind. The day has been earmarked to promote health and education through hand hygiene and behaviour change.


136 UEW Students Receive NAkDeF Scholarship

A total of 136 students from COLTEK of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have been awarded scholarships by the Newmont Akyem Development Foundation (NAkDeF), a subsidiary of Newmont Gold Corps (formerly Newmont Ghana Limited).

A 10-member NAkDeF team led by Madam Gloria Mensah has called on the Management of the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK) to officially present the list of the beneficiaries and to explore the possibility of a stronger bond between NAkDeF and UEW.


COLTEK-GSDI Partnership Extended

The Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) III and its partners including the European Union and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) have decided to sponsor a stretch of the partnership between the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK) and GSDI III towards the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana.
