We live our lives in conversation, building families, societies and civilisations. In over seven thousand languages across the world, the basic infrastructure by which we communicate remains the same. This is the first ever book-length linguistic introduction to conversation analysis (CA), the field that has done more than any other to illuminate the mechanics of interaction. Starting by locating CA by reference to a number of cognate disciplines investigating language in use, it provides an overview of the origins and methodology of CA.

We wish to announce for the information of stakeholders, especially 2017/2018 Fresh Distance Education Students, that the matriculation ceremony on the Kumasi Campus, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2018, has been rescheduled to take place on Thursday, January 25, 2018. But for the change in date of the Kumasi ceremony, all other previously announced arrangements remain the same.
The second batch of students on the Competency-Based Training (CBT) programme, currently on offer exclusively at the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK) of the University of Education Winneba (UEW) have begun the year-long training that would lead to the award of Diploma-in-Education (CBT option). As part of the training, the students mainly comprised of heads and instructors from the Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Institutes, would have two of three-week classroom sessions and spend six weeks for on-field experience gathering and off-campus teaching.
