Vertical Tabs Programme Description Description to come soon Mode of study: Regular/Full TimeDepartment: History Entry Requirement Entry Requirement: The entry requirements to the Department shall be based on the general minimum requirements demanded by the University of Education, Winneba as well as special Departmental requirements. These are: a. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Candidates The general requirement for admission of WASSCE and SSSCE candidates to first degree programmes are three (3) credit passes in three core subjects and three (3) credit passes in three relevant elective subjects. i. SSSCE Candidates: Passes (A-D) in six subjects comprising three core subjects, including English, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus three relevant elective subjects i.e. Economics, Geography, Government, History, and Religious Studies. ii. WASSCE Candidates: Credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus three relevant elective subjects i.e. History Economics, Geography, Government and Religious Studies. b. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Candidates Passes in three (3) relevant subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). i.e. Economics, Mathematics, Geography, Government, History, and Religious Studies. Also the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an arts subject for Science students. c. Higher National Diploma (HND) Candidates Candidates must have graduated with good HND certificate (at least 2nd Class Lower Division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience. d. Special Departmental requirements i. Applicants must have taken History or Government and obtained a grade of at least C4 ii. A pass of B3 (or its equivalent) or better in English will be an advantage 1. Category B: Mature Applicants: Applicants must be at least 25 years by 1st September of the academic year the applicant wants to enroll. The applicants must also pass both the general UEW and Departmental Entrance Examinations. 2. Category C: Diploma Holders: Applicants must possess a Higher National Diploma or its equivalence in a relevant subject from a recognized institution. The applicant must also pass an interview. 3. Category D: School Certificate/GCE Holders: Applicants must have five (5) credits at GCE ‘O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics as well as two (2) ‘A’ Level passes other than General Paper in History and one other social science subject. Job Prospects Job Prospects: Staff of GES (as teachers and administrators), Private Educational Institutions, Public/Civil Servants, Researchers and Administrators for NGO’s and Community Based Organisations& Social Workers.
