Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana has been subjected to a huge paradigm shift since 2001. The focus is to shift from traditional content-based education and training to Competency-Based Training (CBT).
In Ghana however, many of the instructors for technical institutes (TIs) both private and public, lack teachers with CBT pedagogical skills and this has held back the rolling out of the CBT delivery mode in the TIs in Ghana. Although, many of the instructors in the TIs in Ghana have the required skills and the qualification in their subjects’ matter, it is important to acquire pedagogical skills in CBT mode of delivery to facilitate the processes of rolling out the CBT mode of delivery in the TIs.
In view of this, the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK) of the University of Education, Winneba has commenced this pogramme for upgrading instructors of TIs in Ghana. Under this programme, COLTEK is to equip instructors of TIs with knowledge and skills to employ Competency-Based Training (CBT) mode of delivery.
To this end, the admitted learners shall undergo two (2) sessions (semester) intensive programme leading to an award of Diploma in Education (CBT Option), level 5 of (NTVETQF). The programme shall be a modified version of the Diploma in Education programme offered by the College of Technology Education, Kumasi. The Diploma in Education programme shall be modified to include Competency-Based Training methodology and workplace experience learning.
