Programme Description

The programme is designed to equip students with knowledge in the Fante, Nzema or Twi language, literature and culture. The aim is to prepare students to speak and write the said languages to enable them to teach at the basic and secondary levels of education. Students are also adequately trained to take up jobs like programme presentation, news reading and community education using the language of study.

WASSCE/SSSCE Certificate Holders

A total aggregate of 36 or better (WASSCE) or 24 or better (SSSCE) as follows:

i. Credit passes (WASSCE A1-C6 or SSSCE A-D) in three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies; plus

ii. Credit passes (WASSCE A1-C6 or SSSCE A-D) in Fante/Twi/Nzema, and two other relevant Elective subjects.

Mature Applicants

i. Must be at least 25 years by 1^st August of the year one wants to enroll.

ii. Must hold Teacher’s Certificate or GCE/SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate or a Certificate of Professional Training in a relevant field from a recognized Institution.

iii. Must pass the UEW Entrance Examination.

Job Prospects

Job Prospects:

Graduates from the programme can be employed as teachers in the basic and second cycle schools, administrators of educational Institutions, translators, newscasters and programme presenters, writers and book developers, programme coordinators etc
