Jim Weiler was born in Columbus, Ohio, USA and attended city public schools. He earned his first degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz with honors in the major of Community Studies. His masters degree comes from the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University, and his PhD is from Michigan State University in Teacher Education.
He has worked in various educational settings - from teaching junior high school in District of Columbia Public Schools, to teaching Zimbabwean ex-combants, to serving in a professional development school, to working in a Zimbabwean teacher training college, to teaching graduate education students in Columbus, Ohio, to currently being the acting HOD for History Education at UEW.
He is married to Cassandra Martin-Weiler. Together they have three sons - Thando Ray, Tumelo Clay, and Themba James. Jim and his family have lived in Ghana since 2006.
