Research and Innovation will be the Heart of Education in Ghana – H. E. Pres. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.

The President of the republic of Ghana, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has reverberated the government’s commitment to provide quality education to Ghanaians by making research and innovation the heart of education in Ghana.

He said this when he graced the second session of the 21st Congregation of the University of Education, Winneba at the Jophus Anamoah-Mensah Conference Centre on Saturday, July 29, 2017.

H. E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo further reaffirmed the government’s stance to restore the teaching profession to be the most enjoyed profession and an attractive career choice. He disclosed that, government has plans to facilitate teacher training nationwide as well as provide special incentives for teachers such as, to support teachers to pursue distance education, acquire their own homes through a housing scheme in collaboration with GNAT and other Teachers Unions.

Regarding teacher training, he indicated governments readiness to invest heavily in teacher preparation and training to ensure that a crop of well-trained, self-confident and knowledgeable teachers that can deliver the educated and skilled workforce for the country fill our classrooms. To him, if Ghana is to emulate other countries whose development has been rapid, then teacher quality is that single most important determinant the country must consider for success. He used the opportunity to announce the reintroduction of teacher trainees allowance come September 2017.

The President commended the University for proving ‘doubters’ wrong to become the pace setter in teacher education in the sub-region and in distance education delivery in particular.

To the graduating class, he congratulated them for surmounting the academic hurdles and coming out victorious, and charged them to build an educational system for this new century that will produce the future Ghanaian; confident, productive and in-demand worldwide.
