An Icon of our time:- Dr. Christopher Yartey Akwaa-Mensah (Registrar 2005 – 2017)

Dr. Christopher Yartey Akwaa-Mensah, the Registrar of the University of Education, Winneba bows out of office GRACEFULLY on the 30th of September 2017. Dr. Christopher Yartey Akwaa-Mensah is an accomplished public servant and an expert in Higher Education Governance and Policy Development.  His experience in higher education management spans over two decades, serving as Deputy Registrar for Human Resource before assuming the position of Registrar of the University of Education, Winneba. Dr. Akwaa-Mensah holds a doctorate degree in International Education from the University of Sussex, UK; a Master of Art (Adult Education) from the University of Ghana, Legon, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Bachelor of Law degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Dr. Akwaa-Mensah is a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners, Ghana and the Association of University Administrators, UK.

During a ceremony to mark his 60TH Birthday, Mr. Augustus Brew had this to say about him;

“Dr. Christopher Yartey Akwaa-Mensah, you were born on 8th March, 1957, two days after Ghana had gained independence (We are told you spared your mother the agony of not landing on the 6th March in order for her to join in the independence celebrations). How thoughtful of you even when in the womb! A Gbese and NaayƐ royal, you dodged being a chief traditional priest of the Gas to be a Registrar of UEW. Nii Oto UEW lƐƐlƐ! You had seven (7) years of secondary and post secondary education at Labone Secondary School.

In 1982 and 1990 respectively, you pursued an undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Ghana’s premier University, University of Ghana, Legon. You completed these programmes successfully. You also completed your Ed.D from University of Sussex, UK.”

Seth Tompoli: “A person of good disposition”

Emmanuel Kutorglo: "A University Administrator par Excellence" 

We at the Publishing and Web-Development Unit wish to say that, we acknowledge your frank but unassuming disposition to your duty which endeared you to many. We never lost sight of the fact that, you listened and gave us enough room to dream and make things happen within the confines of the law and good corporate practice.

As you retire from your seat as the Registrar of the University of Education, Winneba today, we say that, since the University has grown in the areas of Facility Development and beautification of UEW campuses across the country, ICT infrastructure, Academic Programmes and definitely in Student numbers, teaching and non- teaching staff, you have favourably delivered your responsibility to UEW and Mother Ghana. Well Done!!!
