The delegation, led by its Chairman, Hon. Aminu Suleiman were in Winneba to understudy UEW and its governance structures so as to be able to strengthen and improve upon their Universities of Education back home in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw briefed the delegation on the history of the University. He gave an insight into the status and mandate of the University. He said Universities in Ghana were very autonomous with hardly any interference from government. Reacting to a question on how projects were financed, Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw said, government through Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) finances all development projects. In cases where disbursement of funds delayed, management would pre-finance with internally generated funds. He also spoke about role of quality assurance in the University system to ensure that standards of quality were met.
